Q:  I always feel more alert and can see things more clearly after aerobic exercise.  I try to encourage my daughter to do something aerobic in the morning before school, especially if she has a test of some sort.  But I get the “yea, whatever Mom”.  Maybe her seeing it in writing will make a difference.

A:  Yes daughter it’s true.  It has been proven and experienced by “most people that work out.  Here’s why  Aerobic exercise helps the heart pump more blood to the brain.   More blood means more oxygen, which means better-nourished brain cells.  With better-nourished brain cells you have a greater capacity for knowledge, increased memory and better concenceration skills.  Not only do you have the effects of increased oxygen to the brain, but studies show that every time we exercise we produce chemicals that nourish our brain, one in particular is called BDNF nicknamed “Miracle grow for the brain. A Brain that’s low on BDNF (what happens when we age) shuts itself off of new information, brains with a higher level of BDNF, perform better at multitasking, decision making and basically function at a higher level.  The young developing brain benefits dramactly from exercise producing benefits that last a lifetime.
